My daughter and I had a mission to find a romantic destination wedding setting and honeymoon location. We needed to look no further than the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii!
A lovely rainbow arching from the lush green mountains to the sparkling waters of Kaanapali’s pristine North Beach framed our first destination, the recently opened Honua Kai Resort and Spa. Located on 38 oceanfront acres, the resort offers contemporary brides and grooms luxurious facilities, unparalleled levels of service and a commitment to the traditional Hawaiian concept of “malama aina” (caring for the land).
One, two and three bedroom guest suites with glass-railed lanais provide exquisite views of the mountains to the east and of the islands of Molokai Maui no ka ¯ oi by Amy Strand Rainbow from Lanai at Honua Kai 145 and Lanai to the west. The suites are professionally equipped with gourmet kitchens and laundry facilities. Resort facilities include a network of pools, hot tubs and fountains, the Aina Gourmet Market and a 24-hour gym. Duke’s Beach House provides beach side dining.
For fine dining, the guests can enjoy the resort’s Lahaina location restaurants, I’O and Pacific’O . Chef James McDonald prepares menu items using ‘farm to table’ ingredients from his upcountry Maui farm, O’O. The freshness and the unique combinations of flavors will surprise and delight any couple or wedding party. Just south of the Honua Kai Resort the Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali offers outstanding spa services. For a divine experience try the Westin’s trademarked Heavenly Body treatment. The property also has abundant romantic locations for a wedding ceremony, reception or intimate ocean-side dinner for two.
We spent the second half of our trip at the south end of the island at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Our suite featured exquisite panoramic views of Ulua and Wailea beach. We dined at the on-site restaurant, Mala Wailea. Restaurant owners include Clint Eastwood, Alice Cooper, Don Nelson, and Jim Wiatt. Chef Mark Ellman’s delicious, organic and healthy cuisine attracts a wide clientele including many stars.
